Outback Size Chart

Most Outback products are designed with UNISEX sizing except where specific styles are identified as "Ladies or Kids (boys or girls). Assume that sizing is unisex unless a style is specifically designated. The chart below contains approximate conversions to standard apparel sizes.

Our sizes are based on our measusrements.  Again, all size conversions are approximate.

DETERMINING YOUR HAT SIZE

Heads come in all shapes and sizes and are changeable because of hairstyle, weight gain or loss and age. It’s important that you determine the best size for you by using the chart below not only to get the best fit but to save yourself time and money. 

Some hats are sized using the metric format.  Our hat chart below converts standard sizes and head measurements to metric sizes.  AKUBRA’S outstanding premium leather sweatband inside the hat allows the hat to adapt itself to your one-a-kind head when worn just a few times provided the hat is the best size for you initially so measure carefully.

Measurements are given for the inside of the sweatband of the finished hat which is the part that touches the head.  Using a tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler, begin measuring at the center of the forehead just above the eyebrows and continue around the head to the center of the forehead again.

If your head measures between 2 sizes, we recommend that you choose the larger size for greater comfort.

A small piece of foam inserted under the sweatband easily “customizes” a hat that is just slightly too large so that it fits almost perfectly.

Just as we cannot offer every style and color from AKUBRA’s extensive collection developed during its 100 year history, we cannot offer every size either.  Most men wear between 6 7/8 -  7 3/8 with the majority being either 7 1/8 or 7 1/4.  Women usually wear 6 7/8 or 7 but its not unusual for a woman to measure for a 7 1/8 and occasionally a 7 1/4. 

Our collection of Akubras is limited to sizes 55 (6 7/8) - 60 ( 7/12).  The Snowy River is offered in an extended size range as small as 53 (6 5/8) to size 63 (7 7/8). 

We’re sorry that we cannot special order other sizes  because of time, shipping and cost prohibitions.

We’ve done our best to create an attractive collection of styles and colors is sizes that are appropriate to most people.

Try your hat on as soon as it arrives.  The inside sweatband should feel secure but not too tight or too loose.

(Remember the foam under the sweatband suggestion above).  The top of the crown should not touch the top of the head.
